Jerry Stephen Smith brings more than two decades of commercial litigation, employment law, and complex transactional experience, along with deep executive leadership and entrepreneurial insight, to Mestaz Law. He has represented a wide range of clients—from startups and early-stage technology companies to individual entrepreneurs and high-growth businesses—in industries including fintech, health tech, real estate tech, and other emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence.
Jerry’s background is uniquely multidimensional: part litigator, part executive, and always a strategic advocate. His cases have spanned commercial disputes, breach of contract, business torts, M&A, securities, corporate governance, employment law, and intellectual property. As a former founder and owner of his own law firm, Jerry also has a long-standing passion for representing individuals and businesses in wrongful termination, retaliation, and other workplace disputes. His dual focus on both commercial and employment law makes him a valuable asset to the firm’s litigation practice.
Jerry also served in executive legal leadership roles, including as Chief Legal Officer and Head of Legal & Regulatory Affairs for two innovative technology startups. This experience allows him to bring insight into complex business operations and risk management that traditional litigators may overlook—especially in cases involving fast-moving technologies such as AI.
Prior to joining Mestaz Law, Jerry led Afissio Law LLC, a boutique firm focused on supporting technology companies in both litigation and corporate matters. Before that, he spent over 13 years as the principal attorney of MS Business Law LLC, where he advised and represented companies in litigation, arbitration, and sophisticated commercial transactions. He has also founded his own technological ventures and served as a trusted advisor to many others, navigating growth and change.
